Do you know what the
artificial turf structure is?
Artificial
turf is made up of different specifications that depend on them, the quality of
the product is verified according to the use that is given to it. Those
specifications are the following:
·
Fiber: There are three types of fiber:
polypropylene, polyethylene and polyamide with the determined geometric shape
(flat shape, central rib, in D, U, S, V, W, concave)
·
Dtex: We divide it into Tex, which is the
weight in grams of 1,000 meters of yarn. Therefore, DTEX is the fraction of tex
that is normally used to express the amount of fiber that the grass contains
per m2. In other words, a fiber of 11,000 dtex means that every 10,000 linear
meters of that fiber will weigh 11,000 gr. The high Dtex (14,000 - 16,000) are
more used in sport artificial turf applications while the medium and low DTEX
(8,000 - 11,000) will be more used in garden or decorative artificial turf
applications.
·
Microns: is the unit of measuring fiber in
thousandths of a millimeter.
·
Height: It is the height of the thread
from the backing to the tip. The recommended height for decorative artificial
grass is usually 25 to 40 mm. While for artificial turf football is 50 to 60 mm
and 12 to 15 mm in artificial turf paddle and tennis.
·
Gauge: (looking through the back or
backing of the lawn) is the distance between the sewing rows of the threads, it
is normally 3/8 of an inch for landscaping purposes, but it can also be 5/8,
5/32, 3/4, 3/16 for sporting uses, depending on the fiber and purpose of the
installation.
·
Stitches: are the points that are in each
line of sewing of grass, is measured in stitches per linear meter. Together
with the gauge, the stitches are given per m2. The myth of how many more
stitches better, can have a negative effect giving a feeling of too dense and
unnatural grass. The ideal is to find a balance between stitches and dtex. In
landscaping it is recommended, depending on the fiber and utility, of 14,000 to
19,000 stitches / m2.
·
Backing: it is the base where it is
punched and inserts the fiber with a tufting process and where the drainage
capacity is determined by holes every 5 or 10 cm. The backing can be single
layer or double layer.
·
Latex or Polyurethane: It is the finishing
process, they are the components that unite for the fiber with the backing
avoiding the detachment of the fibers. The two components fully meet all the
requirements necessary for a quality finish. It is not a determining factor
when choosing an artificial turf.

Since the product requires no maintenance from gas or electric-powered lawn equipment, Artificial Grass is more eco-friendly than even natural grass. A simple sweeping with a broom will clear away most any debris or soil from the tip of the turf and have it looking great in no time.
